Mazda MX-5 NC 1.8 MZR Hybrid (2.0 Head) – 175HP Dyno Calibration | DMS TUNED
This Mazda MX-5 NC arrived with an unusual engine configuration: a 1.8L MZR bottom end combined with a 2.0L MZR cylinder head, with the VVT system completely disabled.
Engine Configuration
- 1.8L MZR bottom end
- 2.0L MZR cylinder head
- VVT system fully disabled
- Stock intake system
- Stock exhaust manifold & catalytic converter
- Aftermarket free-flow rear muffler
Dyno Results
Final Output: 175HP / 189Nm
Despite the mismatched components and the loss of VVT advance, precise fuel and ignition mapping allowed recovery of strong mid-range performance. Load calculation, ignition strategy and fueling were optimized to ensure stable AFR control and a smooth torque curve.
The result confirms that even with sub-optimal hardware combinations, proper calibration can recover significant performance and drivability.
